“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” - John 1:1 ESV
Why does John refer to Yeshua as THE WORD? If we examine this verse in Hebrew, we can break this down and find out.
בְּרֵאשִׁית הָיָה הַדָּבָר וְהַדָּבָר הָיָה אֶת־הָאֱלֹהִים וְהוּא הַדָּבָר הָיָה אֱלֹהִים׃
In The Beginning = בְּרֵאשִׁית
(There) Was = הָיָה
THE WORD = הַדָּבָר
And THE WORD = וְהַדָּבָר
Was = הָיָה
(With) God = אֶת־הָאֱלֹהִים
And He = וְהוּא
THE WORD = הַדָּבָר
Was = הָיָה
God = אֱלֹהִים׃
Now, let’s go back to the very beginning and examine the first verse of The Torah, Genesis 1:1
בראשית ברא אלהים את השמים ואת הארץ׃
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” - Genesis 1:1 ESV
If you have been following my previous posts, you will know that every Hebrew letter has its own meaning. Now, let’s examine this את Alpeh-Tav word (pronounced as Et), which has no English translation (as we can see above).
א = Aleph - יהוה HaShem / The LORD
ת = Tav - Cross
We can see here that את literally means The LORD on a CROSS, this is obviously Yeshua (Jesus).
Not only that, את (Aleph / Tav) does not have an English translation. These two letters are the first and last letters of the Hebrew Aleph Bet and are equivalent to Alpha Omega in Greek.
In Revelation 22:13, Yeshua says the following: “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.”
So, here we observe two different Hebrew proofs that Yeshua (Jesus) is את and this is THE WORD.
בראשית ברא אלהים את השמים ואת הארץ׃
We can also see in Bereshit 1:1 (Genesis 1:1) that THE WORD is literally with G*d
בראשית ברא אלהים את השמים ואת הארץ׃
This is also backed up by the John 1:1 in Hebrew, where we see that THE WORD ( את ) is actually defined as “With” G*d.
(With) God = אֶת־הָאֱלֹהִים
Yeshua is all through The Old Testament, we just have to know where to look. This is just another reason I keep telling everyone that there is no English translation of The Holy Bible that truly conveys the magnitude of The Word.
Much Love and Blessings!
This is very good. English will never be as vast as something like Hebrew. English falls flat in several ways, but you can still find evidence of Yeshua in the Old Testament if you look hard enough. Thanks for sharing!
