Six Words for Man

Updated: Mar 22, 2023

Six is The Number of Man. In Genesis Chapter 6 the word “man” appears six times. The Sixth Book of The Bible - Joshua - is The Name of a Man and has 24 Chapters (6 x 4). The word “Adam”, the first man, appears six times in Genesis Chapter 2 and 18 times (6 x 3) throughout the Book of Genesis. The gestation period to bear a child is 9 months, that is 36 (6 x 6) weeks up to 42 (6 x 7) weeks a total of 270 (6 x 45) days or 294 (6 x 49) days. The sixth commandment is the first commandment that is directly associated with mankind and it prohibits the murder of man.

Throughout the Hebrew OT and Greek NT, there are Six Different Words Hebrew and Greek words translated in English as “Man”; Four in Hebrew and Two in Greek. This is just another proof that The Holy Bible is incomplete without The New Testament.

The Four Hebrew Words Translated as “Man” w/ Examples

“But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” - Matthew 4:4

Ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπε, Γέγραπται, Οὐκ ἐπ᾽ ἄρτῳ μόνῳ ζήσεται ἄνθρωπος, ἀλλ᾽ ἐπὶ παντὶ ῥήματι ἐκπορευομένῳ διὰ στόματος Θεοῦ.

“Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?” - Matthew 7:9

Ἢ τίς ἐστιν ἐξ ὑμῶν ἄνθρωπος, ὃν ἐαν αἰτήσῃ ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἄρτον, μὴ λίθον ἐπιδώσει αὐτῷ;

“Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.” - Matthew 1:19

Ἰωσὴφ δε ὁ ἀνὴρ αὐτῆς, δίκαιος ὤν, καὶ μὴ θέλων αὐτὴν παραδειγματίσαι, ἐβουλήθη λάθρα ἀπολῦσαι αὐτήν.

Man - ( ἀνὴρ ) - Numeric Value - 159

I think that probably the most conclusive proof of six being the number of man is the fact that man was created on The Sixth Day - Yom HaShishi ( יום הששי ):

"Then God said, “Let us make manh in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.

And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.

And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day." - Genesis 1:26-31

Numeric Value of All Six Hebrew and Greek Words for Man Combined:

45 + 311 + 357 + 205 + 1310 + 159 = 2387

When I checked to see what all verses had the total numeric value of 2387 (the sum of all six of these words for man) two verses in particular stood out, as they both mentioned Peleg. As a matter of fact, they are the exact same two verses, word for word identical in the Original Hebrew. Needless to say, this is quite unusual, so I checked to see what all I could find out about Peleg and what his significance is in the sum of the six values of "man".

"To Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided, and his brother’s name was Joktan." - Genesis 10:25

ולעבר ילד שני בנים שם האחד פלג כי בימיו נפלגה הארץ ושם אחיו יקטן

Total Verse Numeric Value = 2387

"To Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg (for in his days the earth was divided), and his brother’s name was Joktan." - 1 Chronicles 1:19

ולעבר ילד שני בנים שם האחד פלג כי בימיו נפלגה הארץ ושם אחיו יקטן

Total Verse Numeric Value = 2387

Peleg is also mentioned in the Genealogy of Yeshua, given in Chapter 3 of Luke's Gospel.

"the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Shelah," - Luke 3:35

Peleg lived during the Tower of Babel, when man attempted to build a tower to reach The Heavens, directly challenging G*d. He was the son of Eber, who is known to be the "Father of The Hebrews". He is a directly descended from Shem, one of Noah's sons; in the following genealogical succession:

NOAH → Shem → Arphaxad (Arpakshad, Arpachshad) → Cainan → Shelah (Sala) → Eber (Heber—patriarch of the Hebrews) → PELEG

Here is what I found on Wikipedia about Peleg:

"According to Genesis 10:25 and 1 Chronicles 1:19, it was during the time of Peleg that the earth was divided – traditionally, this is often assumed to be just before, during, or after the failure of the Tower of Babel, whose construction was traditionally attributed to Nimrod. The meaning of the Earth being divided is usually taken to refer to a patriarchal division of the world, or possibly just the Eastern Hemisphere, into allotted portions among the three sons of Noah for future occupation, as specifically described in the Book of Jubilees, Biblical Antiquities of Philo, Kitab al-Magall, Flavius Josephus, and numerous other antiquarian and mediaeval sources, even as late as Archbishop Ussher, in his Annals of the World. One account, the Conflict of Adam and Eve with Satan, states that "In the days of Phalek (Peleg), the earth was divided a second time among the three sons of Noah; Shem, Ham and Japheth" – it had been divided once previously among the three sons by Noah himself. Some Creationists interpret this verse to refer to the continent of Pangaea being split into the modern continents."

It seems as if I'm being drawn to notice that it was "Man" who caused division of the earth. Unfortunately, this has been the case throughout history and is very fitting.

In Hebrew, Paleg ( פלג ) literally means to split or divide (division). If there is one thing that man is good at is division. We see it all aspects nearly all aspects of life, especially in politics. Unity is key for peace and division is bring chaos and war, and it is man who does this well. Even in The Body of Christ, The Church, we see so much division with people arguing over doctrine. Instead of unifying with one another in our faith of Yeshua as Our LORD and Savior, we argue over who is right or wrong about scripture and interpretation.

In summary, we know that six is the number of man and without the Greek NT, scripture would not reflect that. The Numeric Value of the sum of all six of these words for "man" in their original languages is the exact value of these two verses - Genesis 10:25 and 1 Chronicles 1:19 (which are actually identical in the original Hebrew text). Peleg was around during The Tower of Babel and his name literally means "division". The Holy Spirit led me to understand that what we see going on in this world today is akin to a Spiritual Tower of Babel, where man is trying to overthrow Our Creator by attempting to rewrite and undo His Natural Order of Creation. Just as it was then, our own speech being confused to the point that we can no longer communicate with one another. Representatives in our own government cannot even define the definition of a woman, it makes no sense.

It never works out for mankind when we try to overthrow G*d Almighty. He totally allows us to go our way and disobey His Laws (at least while we are here), but when people unify to with one another to defy His Natural Order of Creation, our days are surely numbered. May the LORD have mercy on each and every one of us. Yeshua (Jesus Christ) is Our LORD and Our Salvation - there is no other way. Incline your heart to Him and ask Him for proof, He will give it to you. Much Love and Blessings Always!

As with the majority of my posts, this study about the six different words for "man" in the original Hebrew and Greek languages, took me to a totally different place. It's another proof of The Perfection of His Word and that The Holy Bible is incomplete without the Greek New Testament. As it is written, "To The Jew First Then To The Greek (or Gentile)". First it was The Hebrew Old Testament first and then The Greek New Testament.

"There will be tribulation and distress for every human being who does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek,

but glory and honor and peace for everyone who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek." - Romans 2:9-10

חסד ושלום עליכם והרבה אהבה וברכות

Grace and Peace Be Upon You and Much Love and Blessings!

Man is the most interesting out of all of the creatures on this Earth. Did you know that we technically have all features of animals? We can walk, run, swim, and we got smooth skin (At least most of us do).

You can never praise G-d enough, and a good way of doing so is realizing that you were made to be a creature; a holy image of G-d that represents his glory.

That doesn't mean to buy makeup or a rhinoplasty transplant. It means that we should become more like G-d every day, and the only way you can do that is if you humble yourself before the L-RD. Ask for help performing G-d's good pleasure, for his sake,…
