The post is my humble and sincere attempt to address and clarify The Complex Unity of G*d, commonly referred to as The Holy Trinity, which we know as The Son, The Father and The Holy Spirit. This concept has been argued for centuries, causing division in the early church and is a major stumbling block for Jewish People. I personally never had any difficulty accepting this Complex Unity of G*d, but I wanted to address it regardless. The idea that G*d could be human in any way is a concept that Jewish People simply cannot accept. It is argued that this Complex Unity goes against the Shema Yirael prayer, which is said daily in the Jewish world. The Shema Prayer consists of the following verses from The Torah:
"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is One:
And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates." - Deuteronomy 6:4-9
From the very first verse, we can plainly see that HaShem Our Elohim is Echad (The LORD Our G*d is One). I don't think there are any Christians out there who would argue this. The Jewish view of Christianity is essentially akin to Idolatry. Not only is this a completely false statement, it's uneducated as well. Vainly attempting to make The Torah easier to follow by adding even more laws, The Pharisees were essentially just building walls within walls. When Yeshua was questioned by these Pharisees about His Understanding of The Torah, Yeshua literally quoted The Shema.
"And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?”
And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord" - Mark 12:28-29
Since the idea that we worship three separate entities is totally false, I prefer to use the term Complex Unity, versus Holy Trinity. As the word "trinity" indicates three but doesn't easily convey the unity of the three.
Yeshua spoke about this Complex Unity in the Gospel of Matthew:
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" - Matthew 28:19
He doesn't say "names" but "name" - thus indicating One. Yeshua speaks numerous times of His unity with The Father:
"I and the Father are one." - John 10:30
“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word,
that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one
I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.
Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world." - John 17:20-24
The best analogy that I can come up with that suggests proof of this "Trinity" or "Complex Unity" is something of this world, yet not of this world, and is ultimately the closest substance to Heaven that we have on this earth - Mayim ( מים ) - Water. Let's dive right in...pun intended.
Before I proceed with this, I must be very clear that the following is just an earthly analogy and is far from perfect. There is truly no way to easily explain The Triune, Complex Unity, of Our Creator - hence the "Complex" term. In one sense, water can be three forms, though all water; however, water cannot be all three forms at once like Our LORD is. Just because The Word was Made Flesh and dwelt among us in this physical reality, Our Heavenly Father was still Omnipresent in His Blessed Eternal Heavenly Kingdom. That being said, I feel there is some good information here and it may help others begin to grasp this difficult concept.
There's probably thousands of references regarding Water in The Bible. I can think of several explanations to prove my point here, but to make this concise and to the point, I'm only going to use two of them.
"And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day." - Genesis 1:6-8
"And the evening and the morning were the second day" (notice that The Day Starts on The Evening) - that's just something off subject I wanted to make you aware of...as Day starts in The Evening.
I've worked on this post for a while, shelfed it, prayed about it and now I see yet another deeper truth that HaShem is showing me by leading me to select this particular section from Genesis, regarding the subject of His Complex Unity (Trinity)...Genesis 1:6 - How many times does this verse mention Water - Mayim ( מים ) - THREE. Nothing is Coincidence...that's awesome, but my point is much deeper.
"...Firmament in the midst of the Waters and let it divide the Waters between the Waters"
"Rakia Betocha HaMayim ViHi MabDil Bein Mayim LaMayim"
רקיע בתוך המים ויהי מבדיל בין מים למים
Mayim ( מים ) is Mem Yud Mem - The Yud is The Hand and Mem means Water...so we literally see the proof of G*d Dividing The Waters With His Own Hand in the Hebrew Word for Water. Does the Red Sea, The Womb and Baptism come to mind? It should...
When I say that Water is the closest substance to Heaven that we have on this earth, this is evident in many ways. The Hebrew Word for Heaven (technically "The Heavens"...as it's Plural) is HaShaMayim ( השמים ); thus the Root Word for "The Heavens" is Mayim ( מים ) - Water.
If we take a closer look at Genesis 1:8, "And God called the firmament Heaven..." This is the King James Version Translation, which by the way, is a very good translation...as far as translations go, as it is a Word For Word translation and it's by far the Most Beautiful English Translation ever written. As with all translations, there is much lost information and a more literal translation for "Heaven" in verse is "Sky" or what we know as our atmosphere, here on earth. The Root Word of Sky, ShaMayim ( שמים ), is also Mayim ( מים ) - Water.
In summation, when Heaven is mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, it is the Hebrew Word "HaShaMayim" - The Heavens ( השמים ); Sky is "ShaMayim" ( שמים ) is "Mayim" ( מים ) is Water - which is the literally the root of it all and is the physical (and Heavenly...as I contend) source of life on this planet. Science tells us that we our human bodies are made up of mostly water; it is estimated as 60% for men and 55% for women, either way that is majority us all. Water comprises approximately 71% of the earth's surface...and LORD only knows how much of it is within the earth, and why it never seems to dry up. It's mind blowing to think of...we read about the ancient Gihon Spring, located in the Kidron Valley, which is the main source of water in Jerusalem to this day. This is the same spring which had an ancient made-made water shaft that routed the water source within the Gates of Jerusalem. We now know this as "Warren's Shaft", as it was re-discovered in 1867 by British engineer and archaeologist, Sir Charles Warren. However, it was originally discovered by King David's nephew and Chief Military Commander, Joab. This shaft enabled King David's Army to sneak into Jerusalem, bypassing its fortified walls; thus establishing G*d's Earthly Capital City and future home of the First and Second Temple.
"And the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who said to David, “You will not come in here, but the blind and the lame will ward you off”—thinking, “David cannot come in here.”
Nevertheless, David took the stronghold of Zion, that is, the city of David.
And David said on that day, “Whoever would strike the Jebusites, let him get up the water shaft to attack ‘the lame and the blind,’ who are hated by David’s soul.” Therefore it is said, “The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.” - 2 Samuel 5:6-8
"And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, that is, Jebus, where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the land.
The people of Jebus said to David, “You will never get in here.” Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion (that is, the City of David).
David said, “Whoever strikes the Jebusites first shall be chief and commander.” And Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, so he became chief." - 1 Chronicles 11:4-6
All of this is information is very compelling indeed, but the molecular structure of water itself is what seems to parallel G*d's Personal Nature the most to me. Not to get too technical about all of this, but the Strong linkages, known as Covalent Bonds, hold together the hydrogen and oxygen atoms of individual H2O molecules. Covalent Bonding occurs when two atoms, in this case oxygen and hydrogen, share electrons with each other. Simply put, They Are Both Giving and Neither Are Taking. Covalent Bonding is the best example of altruism in nature. It is the selfless concern for the well-being of others, all give and no take, and no one fit this description better than The Word Made Flesh, Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ). He literally took on the sin of the entire world and died for OUR Sins. After His Resurrection and His Ascension back into The Heavenly Kingdom, we were given the third piece of the Complex Unity, The Ruach HaQodesh (The Holy Spirit) - the first two was The Father and The Son.
This is vividly recorded in The Book of The Acts of The Apostles:
"When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.
Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them." - Acts 2:1-4
Now that I've thoroughly established the fact that Water is The Most Heavenly Substance of this planet, what's that have to do with G*d's Complex Unity (Trinity)? Water has Three Forms; Solid, Liquid and Gas. No matter which form it takes, it's all Water and it's all ONE. This is probably the best earthly example of The Complex Unity and gives us some point of reference that we can observe and begin to wrap our minds around.
Now, let's make this much clear - water is not a perfect analogy of The Complex Unity. Water cannot be all three forms at the same time, so admittedly, it a limited analogy. No matter what, The Creation can never begin to match The Creator.
Just as it's stated in Deuteronomy 6:4, G*d is ONE and Christians do not worship a human being. The only way that sin could ever be conquered in this world, is for someone to perfectly follow every instruction in The Torah, as it was given by G*d and written by Moses...and the only way that could be done is for G*d to come down here, in Human Form, and to do it Himself. All Human Beings are born out of sin, as technically we are "Sons of Adam", so we already have a huge strike against us in that regard. This sinful fallen human nature did not apply to Yeshua, as His conception was immaculate and He was born from a Pure Virgin Mother.
Hopefully this post can help bring some clarity to someone out there who needs it. There are many false doctrines floating around these days and people can easily be mislead, especially believers who are new to the faith. Always call upon The Holy Spirt for guidance and question everything, the evidence is in their fruit. This is the test that Yeshua Himself gave us to apply to these false teachers. Take a look at the way they live and if they practice what they preach, so to speak...no one is perfect, by any means, and no one is without sin. Anyone that claims that they have all of this stuff figured out and that their interpretation is the only true one, those are the ones that you must avoid like the plague.
"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.
You will know them by their fruits.
Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles?
Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.
Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
Therefore by their fruits you will know them." - Matthew 7:15-20
Everyone on this planet needs Water to Live, but there is only ONE Source for The Mayim Chaim ( מים חיים ) - The Living Water that Provides Eternal Life.
Jacob’s well was there; so Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour.
A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.”
(For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.)
The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)
Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”
The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water?
Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.”
"Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again,
but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
