The Divine Council and The Seventy Nations

Updated: Dec 22, 2022

We see lots of confusion and misunderstanding of The Word these days and much of it goes back to the divine council. When men tried to build a tower to reach the kingdom of G*d, at least 70 divine entities were given the authority by the Most High to confuse their languages and to scatter them across the land. After this happened, it seems that several of these "gods" (with a lower case "g") started to abuse the power they were given and that men started to worship them. We are told in Psalm 82 that divine judgment has been served upon them and that they will "die like men".

Paul advises us, in Ephesians 6:12, that the source of our daily struggles come from "spiritual wickedness in high places". This explains a lot about what we see in the world today.

We read in Genesis 11 that, “The whole earth was of one language, and of one speech”. In Hebrew, the numerical value of the phrase “one language” is the same as that of the phrase “the holy tongue”. The divine council confused our languages, which in turn created a spiritual disconnect from Hashem. This is why it is important for us to learn the Hebrew language, if nothing else but to aid us in our prayers.

There is only one G*d who has created lots of divine angelic beings to carry out his divine will and their actions above mirror the actions below. These angelic beings are to be respected by us, but never to be worshipped by us. I have put together several verses that all correspond together to bring some light on this for us, as this can all be very difficult for us to understand.

"And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.

And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth." Genesis 11:1-9

"By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations." - Genesis 10:5

"God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.

How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.

Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.

Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.

I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.

But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.

Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations." - Psalm 82

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." - Ephesians 6:12
