The Torah tells us that we were created from the dust of the ground in the following verse:
"And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." - Genesis 2:7
The scripture goes on in the next chapter to tell us that because the serpent tempted man and caused him to sin, that he will be cursed to eat dust all the days of his life.
"And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life" - Genesis 3:14
There are a couple important points being stated that we need to understand here. We are made from dust and the serpent shall eat this dust all of the days of his life. It's not about a snake literally eating dust, but rather it should be understood that the adversary has been given authority to reign over the physical world in which we all live; this is why we all must physically die in this life. Our sin separated us from G*d, but we have all been blessed with the ability to rectify this. The second point here is know that the adversary's days are numbered, as the scripture specifically says "all the days of thy life" and it does not say forever. One day, and that day may be coming soon, Yeshua will come back and expel this darkness from the earth. G*d has given us all free will, hence the existence of darkness, and he will respect everyone's choice to follow him or not to and anyone who does not follow Yeshua will be cast off along with the rest of the darkness.
"And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever." - Revelation 20:10
Only through the Salvation of Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ) can we ascend from here and not taste death, but are given eternal life to dwell with our Heavenly Father in his Kingdom.
"Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." - John 14:6
We need to understand that what the text is telling us here is that since we are made from the dust of the ground, and that the serpent has been cursed to eat this dust; that means that the adversary feeds of us. His nourishment comes from our sins and he feeds on this. The adversary has rejected the light and all that is holy, and it is his goal that each of us does the same. The Torah tells us that the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field, so his trickery is subtle and can very difficult for us to identify. We all must be aware of this and alert at all times.
It's a scary thought to think that we are essentially "snake food", but this is exactly what the scripture is telling us here. Further proof of this can be found throughout the Holy Bible, in particular in the following verse:
"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." - 1 Peter 5:8
Notice that Peter specifically uses the term "devour" in the above passage here, this is no coincidence and it is not to be taken lightly. We must be vigilant at all times and pray for the clarity to be able to perceive the darkness, so we do not let it creep into our lives and destroy us.
Without the blessing and protection of Yeshua, we do not stand a chance down here, as the darkness will literally eat us alive.
Stay alert and be vigilant at all times. Do not fear the darkness, but take comfort in the Salvation that Yeshua has promised us. He will protect his flock, and we must never doubt this.
